Commercial Vehicle Show Set for 2011
CV show will have something for everyone. The Commercial Vehicle (CV) show in April 2011 will allow exhibitors and visitors to identify ways they could improve efficiency and maximise profits. Held at the National Exhibition Centre Birmingham on 13-15th April 2011, the show will focus on the road transport and logistics industries and is an ideal place for van and LCV drivers.
This year’s show was cancelled by the CV Show LLP, made up of the Road Haulage Association, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, the trading company of the SOE (Society of Operations Engineers) due to the difficult economic climate meaning that vehicle manufactures found it difficult to commit exhibitions.
Richard Gibbs, Managing Director of BPW confirms: “As a long-time exhibitor at the CV Show, we value the opportunity to meet so many of our customers, old and new, in a relatively short period and where they come to us. For operators, a business meeting place such as the 2011 CV Operator Show is a truly cost-effective way to keep up to date with new developments while also meeting new suppliers.” In related news, drivers test driving any Ford van until 31 October will be put into a draw for a chance to win UEFA Champions League tickets for the UK based games. |

Mercedes Vans drive green technology forward
|
 |
Fleet News magazine has explored how the German manufacturer is protecting its market share as sales decline with more environmentally-sustainable models. Mercedes-Benz believes that fuel-efficient and greener technologies underpin its continuing success in the commercial vehicles market, according to a report in Fleet News magazine.
The publication claims the manufacturer is focusing on improving the fuel technology and efficiency of its new vans to retain its market share – currently at 15.7 per cent in the UK – while actual vehicle sales continue to diminish.
These measures include the replacement, planned for July, of the Mercedes Sprinter’s Euro IV units with the new 2.2-litre Euro V-compliant diesel powerplants, which claim to reduce fuel consumption by 11 per cent.
Another development, planned for later this summer, is the launch of the new Sprinter NGT, a CNG (compressed natural gas) model which runs on natural gas or petrol. The UK does not currently have a refueling infrastructure for CNG but fleets would be able to bunker the fuel on-site.
In other news, figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) show that registrations on new vans and trucks dropped 42.1 per cent in March and 23.9 per cent to 300,629 for the rolling year. |

The manufacturer has unveiled its brand new van - the Nissan NV200 - at the 79th annual Geneva Motor Show and announced that production for the European market will commence in Barcelona later this year.
Nissan recently held the global launch of its brand new NV200 van at the Geneva Motor Show 2009, also announcing that production will start for Europe in Barcelona, Spain, in the second half of 2009.

Andy Palmer, Senior Vice President of the Nissan Motor Company and Head of Nissan’s Global LCV Business Unit, said: “We hope that this spirit will be kept to make sure the Barcelona plant will take the necessary further steps to become competitive and gain new products for its sustainability.”
Nissan hopes to sell 150,000 NV200s globally. The vans model will be launched in Japan in Spring 2009, then Europe in the second half of the year, followed by China and a number of other global markets.
